At Ankenny Wildlife Refuge (cont’d)

4

Grass grown tall

Reaches skyward

Every day, reaching,

Extending tiny petals, like hope.

Natural poet,

“Gather Earth’s strength,” grass sings,

“Reach far beyond yourself, your pain.

Emerge from night and all it brings,

Excite yourself with wind and rain.”

No longer dazed, my

Glad fingers skim poetic grass

Reach out to trace

Each flower’s face,

Enthralled with cadence

None can erase.
